583 ReviewsSail out on a catamaran and try to spot the ocean’s “Big 5”: whales, dolphins, mola mola, leatherback turtles and seals. Enjoy a relaxing morning at sea including refreshments and snacks.
Okahirongo Elephant lodge is located in the Purros Conservancy, which is 55km from the Skeleton Coast and about 200km south of the Kunene River. This area is home to the nomadic Himba tribe as well as the amazing desert-adapted Elephant, lion, black rhino as well as the giraffe.
The lodge is a no risk malaria zone, so guests need not worry about that. The lodge can be reached by 4x4 vehicles, it is alternatively a two and a half hour flight from the capital of Windhoek. The landing strip is approxiamately 5 minutes from the lodge.
Accommodation at the Okahirongo Elephant lodge includes seven units that look out onto the vast wilderness of the conservancy and are fully equipped with en-suite bathrooms that contain a bath tub and two showers, one of which is outdoors; A private gazebo furnished with day beds invites guests to lounge about while star gazing if they so wish. The decor of the rooms is distinctly earthy with African inspiration. The lodge also has an amazing turquoise infinity pool where guests can cool off and enjoy the view at the same time or they can sit in one of the exquisite open air lounges. Meals at the lodge can be enjoyed in one of the two dining rooms or the traditional boma, depending on guests' preferences. The menu is a fusion of Italian and Namibian cuisine which may be enjoyed with a selection of South African wines.
Guests can explore the wilderness of the Purros Valley in an open air safari vehicle, where they could catch glimpses of the desert adapted elephants and lions or the various antelopes, giraffes and the lumbering black rhino. Other activities include nature drives in the morning and afternoons, night drives, morning walks and visits to the local Himba village.
